My Story

Amy, the patient behind Patient to Patient IVF
Hi, I'm Amy — the patient behind this guide.

I'm not a doctor. I'm not a nurse. I'm not affiliated with any clinic, pharmacy, or supplement company. I'm a patient who has spent years in the fertility trenches — and I built this because the resource I needed didn't exist when I started.

Peace sign after my first egg retrieval at Kaiser — October 2022.

Here's the short version of my journey: multiple clinics, three egg retrievals, four personal failed embryo transfers, a fifth transfer with our surrogate that also failed, an endometriosis diagnosis that took years to get taken seriously, a donor egg journey, and now surrogacy. I've been through Kaiser in Sacramento, Victory Reproductive Care in Canada, and CNY Fertility in Syracuse. I've paid for almost all of it out of pocket. I've spent more hours reading research papers, fertility forums, and clinical studies than I care to admit.

What I've learned — sometimes the hard way — is that an informed and prepared patient gets better care. Not because the information changes what the clinic does, but because it changes what you ask for, what you push back on, what you notice, and how you advocate for yourself.

This site is everything I wish someone had handed me at the beginning. The things that took me years to figure out. The questions I didn't know to ask. The tests nobody suggested. The research that changed how I thought about my own situation.

Take what's useful. Leave what doesn't apply. Always talk to your own care team. But go in informed.

What This Site Is — and What It Isn't

This site IS:

  • A collection of personal experience, research, and things worth thinking about
  • A starting point for questions to bring to your own doctor
  • Written in plain language by someone who has lived this
  • Free and always will be — no paywalls, no premium content, no ads

This site IS NOT:

  • Medical advice
  • A substitute for your own care team
  • Affiliated with any clinic, pharmacy, or supplement company
  • Sponsored by anyone

Every opinion on this site is labeled as opinion. Every research claim includes a link to the source. Everything I'm not sure about I say I'm not sure about. I would rather be honest about uncertainty than confident about something I can't back up.

A Note on Language

Throughout this site you'll see phrases like "in my opinion," "I strongly believe," "I cannot prove this but," and "worth asking about." This is intentional.

I am not a medical professional and I never want to present personal conclusions as clinical fact. IVF is complex. Bodies are individual. What happened in my journey may not apply to yours. The goal is always to give you a starting point — not a prescription.

Follow the Journey

I share my IVF journey in real time on TikTok. The good, the hard, the research, the advocacy — all of it.

The guide on this site and the content on TikTok are connected — when I learn something new it ends up here. When something in the guide sparks a question I make a video about it. They're meant to work together.
